Collaboration History

The character Banji was not created simply for commercial purposes.

Banji was born from the pessimistic feelings the artist experienced while spending half of his 30s in a basement studio as an unknown ceramic artist.

The artist, who spent all day unproductively handling clay in an underground studio, felt like a mole; just like the artist's rebellious nature, 'Banji' was completed as a character who is pessimistic by nature but optimistic in attitude.

The name 'Banji' is derived from the word 'semi-basement' and was inspired by the movie 'Parasite.' One day, as I was descending into my underground studio, I felt a striking resemblance to the scene in 'Parasite' where Ki-taek (played by Song Kang-ho) and his family endlessly descend the stairs.

The author, who believes that "the default value of life is pain," focuses on accepting the negative emotions that always arise in daily life as they are, rather than trying to ignore them, and on how to overcome them.

Banji, a character created in the process of satirizing the author's own painful times, is a character that symbolizes the author's attitude of accepting his origins but overcoming them and moving forward, through his large eyes and an iconic nose that symbolizes desire, contrary to his origins as a mole.
